It is true to say that when it comes to blogging, the headline or blog title that you choose to call your blogImage result for blog post title post has a huge effect to the traffic that the blog post will gain. For search engines, it will help rank your article, determine what the contents is about and provide the web user information about your blog post, as well as whether it is worth clicking on or not. For this reason, it is extremely important to make sure your blog post is as effective as it can be to promote your blog post. Here are some ways you can go about making the perfect title for your blog post.

#1 Try to Use Numbers

Quantifying things in the blog post title provides more transparency to the web user on what exactly your article is about. This is because numbers can tell the web user:

  • How long the article is – if you have 100 tips, it is going to be a much longer read than a 2-5 tip article.
  • The quality of the content – if you have 100 tips, it is more likely you will find some useful and some not, whereas an article with 2-5 tips are potentialy tips that would universally work for the majority of web users that read it.

In order to use numbers, it is a good idea to quantify your blog post by looking at the number of ‘Heading 1’s you have used. For example, for this article, I have used three ‘Heading 1’s. Therefore, I have included ‘3’ in the post title.

#2 The Thesaurus is Your Best Friend

The way Google operates is through clever complex algorithms which determines what your content is about and ranks you based on this on search engine results. If you use one ‘tip’ whereas another similar blog post uses ‘advice’ instead of tip, Google would recognise that ‘tip’ and ‘advice’ basically means the same thing, so it is possible for both articles to rank for the same search phrase.

With this, create a blog post title. Once you have done this, try to change 1-2 words in the title using the thesarus, to make the title sound more ellaborate and exciting. For example, instead of having ‘Useful Tips’ in your blog post title, you could have ‘Effective Tips’. Both mean the same thing and both will rank the same, roughly, on Google search engine. However, which are you more likely to click on? (that’s a rhetorical question by the way…)

#3 Include a Call to Action

There is no better way to get the web user to do as you want other than to tell them to do as you want. This works for advertising, such as pay per click advertising, where the search advert titles typically include a call to action (CTA) to entice the web user into a click.

By asking the web user to perform an action, you are guiding them through the process of how your article can help them (by clicking on it).

You only have to look at native adverts to realise the power there is in titles with a call to action!
