I have a Compaq EVO 510 minitower running Win XP Pro. My SB Live 5.1 digital sound card stopped working at some point and I’ve been trying to reinstall the drivers repeatedly. At first I was getting the message that no Sound Blaster audio device was found…exiting setup. Well I found your site and tried it but now its telling me two files can’t be found and/or copied…ctac32k.sys and hap16v2k.sys. They are in the System32 driver folder but when I install ctac32k it won’t find hap16v2k and I have to cancel the install. In cases where I was able to successfully install the two files the device wouldn’t start or if it did I got no sound.

I was getting that message as well and tried your solution but couldn’t complete the install because I keep getting a message that two system files can’t be copied although I see them in C:\Windows\system32\drivers. When I browse and point the directory at ctac32K it finds it and installs but won’t find haP16v2k.sys, or it’ll install one but not the other, or they’ll disappear from the list of drivers altogether…what’s up with that? Very frustrating.

After hours of searching Dell and the Creative site and downloading what seemed like 4gigs in various drivers, I had almost given up. But then I found this, redownloaded the original LiveDrvUni.exe, unzipped it and manually updated using device manager, worked like a charm!

The card I’m using is an SB0220. Not sure if it’s OEM or not since I got the system from a second hand store. But all the drivers from both SB and Dell stated there was no card found. Obviously a glitch in development.

heres the link to the creative site find your driver there pci sound device is at the bottom of the list on any windows operating system so keep looking

Hello guys;

I’ve the same problem with my Sound Blaster 5.1. I read the suggested solution from you but i still have some questions.
1) Where can i find these driver packs that you mentioned? My card is not Live! or Audigy version either and on internet i couldn’t find the right drivers. Can i find them on the cd?
2) There’s not an item named “PCI Sound Device” on my Device manager. But i’m sure that i put the card to right place. What can be the problem?

Hello guys;
I have the same problem with my Sound Blaster 5.1 (”Setup couldn’t…). I read your solutions; but i still have two questions:
1) My card is not Auddigy or Live! version either; where can i find these driver packs that you mentioned?
2) On my device manager there’s not a item named “PCI Audio Device”. Where can i find it?

i have installed it the way you suggested, got the drivers installed but through the surround mixer i cannot get it to set to 5.1

You RULE. I used this same method to finally install the drivers for my POS SB 5.1 Live! card. I’ve had the dumb thing for years and never got it working properly because Creative offers absolutely NO HELP to their customers.

Thanks so much for posting this fix. I’ve always had Creative cards, but after this experience, I’m NEVER buying another Creative card again!!!

Hm doesnt work for me.. Cant click okay in that window that pop ups when you try to choose driver by yourself.. The only location I can choose is the E: Drive.. (Dvd-rom)
