Why Google is Winning the War Against Apple

For the past decade or so, there have mainly been two companies that have fought over the market share Image result for google assistantin mobile and the tech industry for operating systems: Google with Android and Apple with iOS (yes, Microsoft had Windows Phone but it never really took of as Microsoft had hoped). Although it is down, very much, to interpretation, it could be seen that Apple has lead the way with operating systems and hardware for the past ten years, ever since they released the first iPhone. However, it appears that things, in 2017, have taken a turn. Has Google finally overcome Apple to become the tech giant company with the best tech available? Here are some comparisons between Google and Apple.

  • In terms of operating system, Google has to win, simply because Google’s AI, Google Assistance, is far cleverer and more complex than Apple’s Siri, which is still waiting to be updated to adopt artificial intelligence this year.
  • In terms of hardware, this is probably a draw. The Apple iPhone 7 and Google Pixel are both amazing smartphones. Therefore, the choice is mainly down to what operating system and what eco-system you like to use.
  • In terms of artificial intelligence, this is a no brainer. Google wins this outright with Google Assistant.
  • In terms of smart devices for the home, Google wins this with the Google Home and the various devices the Google Home can connect to, unlike anything Apple currently has for offer (which is, pretty much, just the Apple TV).
  • In terms of images on the whole, Google just manages the win in this area. The iPhone 7 and, mainly, 7 Plus have amazing cameras. But, you cannot ignore the fact that the Google Pixel recieved the accolade of the best smartphone camera ever. As well as this, Google’s smartphones with Google Assistant can now intelligently tell what you are looking at with the camera, to give yourself useful information about what you are looking at – this is streaks ahead of what any other company can do.
  • In terms of virtual reality, Apple has nothing and Google now has a dedicated virtual reality headset with their smartphones also being virtual reality compatible.
  • In terms of web browsers, this probably goes down to preference. That being said, it is very difficult to find someone who has a computer or a Mac/Macbook that does not have Google Chrome installed on it.
  • In terms of car entertainment, this is probably a draw, since both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are great additions to the car to improve your experience while driving.

Although a lot of the above that has been said can be deemed subjective, what cannot be ignored is just how much Google has come on, especially in the emerging markets such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence and the Android operating system features. For this reason, Apple really needs to deliver something special this year to combat the surge by Google, if they have any chance of staying the tech company for all things smart.
