There are more and more people everyday that are packing up their 9-5 jobs and pursuing careers intoImage result for freelance work blogging. There are many reasons for this, with the most noticeable being that it allows people to talk and blog about the things they truly care about, which will involve a lot of self-motivation due to the genuine interest in the topic from the blogger. Nonetheless, getting your first blogging job, be it freelance work, can become quite a tricky process. This is because most of those looking to employ freelancers want to employ people that already have experience of blogging, be it on recognisable websites or on their own website/s. For this reason, making sure you have the best possible ‘blogging CV’ is crucial to landing freelance work. Here are some tips on what to include in your blogging CV.

  1. Don’t talk about anything unrelated – This is probably an obvious one. However, some people still feel the need to mention things that are completely unrelated to a blogging career, simply because they are so proud of completing it. Examples, include sporting achievements, degrees in totally unrelated topics to that of blogging  or the topic of field you are entering into and previous work at very young ages.
  2. Include the most important things you have done online – The best way to do this is to make a list of everything that you have done online, from creating a Facebook account to posting an Instagram picture to blogging and creating websites. Rank the list in terms of what you found the most challenging and what you are most proud of. With this, take the first 5-10 of this list and use as the main bulk of your blogging CV. This is the information which you should include to show off to those looking to employ you as a freelancer.
  3. Tailor your CV to the freelance work you are applying for – There is nothing worse than reading a generic CV which, at the end of it, you think to yourself ‘what did I just read? I haven’t learnt anything about the individual and if they are good enough to do the freelance work’. For this reason, always adapt and modify your blogging CV based on the freelance work you are applying for. It is also a good idea to include a very customized covering letter, which summarises the main strengths of yourself from your blogging CV.

On top of the above tips, it is also a great idea to offer free ‘trial’ work for the freelance work you are applying for. This is because:

  • It shows you are motivated and want the job.
  • You are keen to start as soon as possible.
  • It allows yourself to show off your freelancing skills with actual freelancing work experience.
  • It is an offer that no-one can refuse!

For this reason, it is a complete win-win. You gain freelance experience, the employer gains freelance work for free and, if they are impressed, you get employed.
