The Main Pros and Cons to the Nintendo Switch

It has only been a few weeks into the start of 2017 and already Nintendo has kicked things off by Image result for nintendo switchreleasing their new games console to rival Sony’s Playstation 4 and the Microsoft Xbox One. The name for this console? The Nintendo Switch.

The idea for the name comes from the fact that it can ‘switch’ between being a games console for the lounge and living room area and also a handheld device, much like the Sony Playstation Portable was like.

So it does all sound promising. But, is it worth purchasing ahead of the likes from Sony and Microsoft? To help you decide, here are the main pros and cons to the Nintendo Switch from seeing how it works and what we can expect from it in the future.

Nintendo Switch Pros

  1. Takes the best of both worlds. Unlike what we have ever seen before, the Nintendo Switch is the first games console to bring console quality graphics to a portable device, through the use of being able to switch it. This makes the Nintendo Switch the best option in terms of portability for a games console, which will please those with busy lives who are always on the move.
  2. Some great games are coming. Nintendo have a great range of games coming to the Switch, such as games from Super Mario, Zelda and more. Therefore, we can be sure that there are going to be fun games to play.
  3. Think of it also as a Wii. Due to the design of the controllers for the Switch, when in the docked console mode, the controllers, depending on the game, can also work just like the Wii controllers worked, with motion sensitivity. This will help to provide a more active approach to gaming which made the Wii a big hit when it was released.

Nintendo Switch Cons

  1. Switch does not support 4k. When in the docked mode, the Nintendo Switch can play games up to a resolution of 1080p and, unfortunately, that is it. When in the portable mode, this reduces down to 720p, which, I guess, is still better than the next best thing (which was the Sony PSP in at 544p). However, compare these figures against the Sony Playstation 4 Pro and the Xbox One S, for which both support 4k gaming, it feels that the Switch has not future-proofed the resolution quality of their console.
  2. Not many release games. Although the games that will be launched with the Switch are going to be great games, such as a Zedla game and Super Mario games, the actual range of games at the release will be very low, especially when compared to when the PS4 and the Xbox One was released. With this, it will be interesting if all of the mainstream games will come to the Switch like they do to Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles.
