Sometimes, when it comes to finding what you want online, you simply want bullet points so you can quickly scan articles and take in the information as quickly and easy as possible – I plan to make this article one of them types of articles. Google Adsense is used by the millions because it is one of, if not the, most effective way to monetize a website or any webpage that gets traffic for that matter. For this reason, the optimisation of Google Adsense on a website is vital to many bloggers and website owners because it can mean an extra 10% in earnings from simple optimisations. For this reason, here are some quick and easy Adsense tips anyone who uses Google Adsense can use to help them make that bit more money from the PPC publisher program.

  • Size makes a difference – The easiest way to increase your earnings is to make your advert sizes bigger. This will give the advert more coverage area which means the chances of web users looking at the advert increases. However, this will affect how satisfied web users are with your website and has the potential to cause your bounce rate and other important statistics to increase/decrease for the worse.
  • Blend adverts – From performing numerous amounts of tests on different websites, I have come to the conclusion that adverts that blend into a website’s design/theme perform best. Of course, you can contract adverts or compliment them. However, blending adverts work best as they ‘fool’ the web user since they do not, at first glance, seem like adverts.
  • Locate adverts under/near readable text – The simply rule to location is that you should always try to place adverts near text that is going to be read (or images that are going to be seen for image adverts). This is so that the web user reads the text and then his or her eyes drift towards the nearest thing being the advert. This is why adverts near the logo of the website, just below the title of articles or below the content of articles work best gaining a high click through rate (CTR).
  • Font makes a difference – Continuing the theme of blending adverts, the best thing to do with font is make sure it is as close (or identical) to the font displayed on your website. As well as this, it would be a good idea to have the size of the font the same as the content on your website too.
  • Text and image adverts work best – There are many reasons why I think this is the best combination (and not just one or the other). Firstly, by having both applied to adverts means the competition for the advertising space increases resulting in an increase in CPC. Therefore, if you find your CTR falls a little, the CPC should make up for it (although the CTR should really not fall). As well as this, having both text and image adverts makes the advert unpredictable to web users whether a text or image advert will appear. Therefore, they are more likely to look and engage with the advert because of this unpredictability.
