make sure that pin 1 on the drives matches pin 1 with the EIDE cables. The EIDE cables look like a gray ribbon of little, glued together, cables with 1 red wire. The red wire has to match pin 1 on the back of the drive. Make sure that the primary 0 is set to master and that the primary 1 is set to slave. you can tell by looking at the jumper at the back of the drive. It should correspond with a graph that is usually in the manual of the drive or on the drive itself. the jumper is a little plastic cover that has a metal wire in the inside, you may have to use tweezers to remove it and put it in the right place. also make sure that the secondary o is set to master and the secondary 1 is set to slave using the same method. if there isn't a drive that goes into the slave than you don't have to bother plugging one in and setting it to slave. just make sure the one by itself is set to master.

Hi - Now I have another problem.... Bought a used dell Optiplex GX270 series, Bios version A01..professional xp 3 ghz, 1gb ram, 120 gbhd open office, antivirus last week. I used it for a couple of days, bought a modem for it.. installed it and it worked fine. I then tried to put my plusdeck2c in, it had 2 dvd's in the bays, no room for the plusdeck, so I removed one dvd and inserted the tape deck in the bay, put everything back together, plugged it in and got a message that the primary hard drive could not be found.. I checked all the leads, cables, unplugged and plugged back in so that every connection was secure.. Same thing came back on the monitor can't find .. So I then took everything back out that I had put in.. No luck. Now it says Secondary drive 0 and Secondary drive 1 not found. and wants me to go to F2 to run the setup utility. What now???

Please help.

Just wanted to write and let you know I appreciated your immediate response. I redid everything..I also had installed a tape deck in the system, when I took that out, inserted my windows 98 disk rebooted and installed that, everything is fine. I have windows 98 for my embroidery work...and I definitely will not mess with that again. I am going out and buying a new/used system for my recording of records and tapes..what a mess that was. Thank you for being there.
