It has seemingly become the norm for smartphones of 2018 to be as bezeless as they can, with the likes of the LG G7 ThinQ reducing the bezels down significantly to its predecessor.
In the past few years, OnePlus has started to pick up a serious following. The hashtag #NeverSettle certainly goes with all of the principles of OnePlus: produce a smartphone with flagship quality and specs at a fraction of the flagship price. The OnePlus 5 and 5T achieved this. Now, with the OnePlus 6 just released, it will be interesting to see if their newest flagship is as good as its predecessors. Here are the main stand out features of the OnePlus 6.
#1 Bezeless Screen
The OnePlus 6 comes with a bezeless screen, well, as close to bezeless as 2018 is seemingly going. There is an ever so small bezel at the bottom, with a notch at the top to hold the sensors and front facing camera (similar to the iPhone X and LG G7 ThinQ).
#2 Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with 6/8GB Ram
OnePlus has always produced smartphones that have the latest specs and ridiculous internals to future proof them and deliver the smoothest experience. The OnePlus 6 is no exception, with the latest snapdragon processor and 6GB or 8GB ram.
#3 Glass Design
The OnePlus 6 has an all glass design, making it feel much more premium than before (where the back was aluminium).
#4 Water Resistant
A critical point to previous OnePlus phones was that they were never prepared for splashes or water, unlike most other flagship smartphones. Although the OnePlus is not fully water resistant (where it can be submerged), it does have water resistance that OnePlus likes to call ‘weather protection’ – this should mean the smartphone should be guarded against splashes and general life.
#5 Bullet Wireless Earphones
Alongside the OnePlus 6 launch, OnePlus also launched bullet wireless earphones (even though the headphone jack is kept). These are earphones that have a few cool features such as:
- Magnetic control
- Designed for comfort
- They can control more than just music, such as the use of Google Assistant
- 5 hours listening time on a 10 minute charge
#6 Creeping Prices
Although the OnePlus 6 is still considered a bargain for the specs, the prices have been increasing consistently by 10-30 dollars each year. At this rate, the flagship smartphones, when released, won’t become a cheaper alternative to Samsung and Apple, but direct competition.
Verdict – Good Evolution by OnePlus
The OnePlus 6 is a good improvement on the OnePlus 5T, with the main improvements coming with the internals, screen and outside design. For those looking for a flagship smartphone that has a bezeless screen, it is difficult to turn down the OnePlus 6 for more expensive alternatives, such as the Samsung S9 or Apple iPhone X – and this is exactly where OnePlus have been gaining sales.
For this reason, there is no reason that this smartphone should not be successful. The brand has increased in exposure year on year and this year, it seems OnePlus has delivered, yet again, another flagship killer smartphone.
