Nice to Have Features Of Smartphones in 2015

So already I have made an article that outlines the must have features I expect smartphones to have in 2015 which included features such as quick and wireless charging, USB type-C and so on. As I have said, these are must have features for smartphones – to stay up with technology evolution and to stay ahead of the market, smartphones need these features in order to stay competitive. But, what are the ‘nice to have’ smartphone features of 2015? For this reason, I thought to make this article which highlights some of the nice to have features I would want smartphones of 2015 to have in order to make them attractive to, well, me (and hopefully you).

#1 Metal or Soft Plastic Design

The first nice to have feature of smartphones involves the design. I am a big fan of metal smartphones because they really give a sense of quality about the smartphone – you only have to look at Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6S which, when you hold it in your hand, it feels very premium. Saying this, I can understand that many manufacturers may not want to use metal in the design as this will increase the mass and expenditure of the phone. Therefore, in these cases, a soft plastic is the next best option much like Google and LG’s Nexus 5 back (if you have felt it). Since we are constantly using our phones, what seems like, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, the feel it has in our hands is very important so choosing the right materials is key to the smartphone’s features.

#2 Curved Screen

I know this seems a huge nice to have feature. However, I do not mean curved in like the LG G Flex curve or Samsung S6 Edge curve. When I first held the iPhone 6 in my hands, the edges of the screen are slightly curved to prevent a sharp edge occurring around the front gorilla glass – this I really like. The screen can still be flat which means it will cost next to nothing to achieve this feature and feels brilliant when having to use the edges of the screen.

#3 AMO-LED Screen

I know the majority of smartphones use LED or AMO-LED screens. However, some are still using optimised LCD screens. AMO-LED has the major advantage over LCD where not every pixel has to be ‘turned on’ for the screen to work. Therefore, for things such as notifications on lock, only the pixels in the section of the screen where the notifications occur are the only pixels to be turned on (which also helps with battery life too). The blacks are blacker and the brightness is brighter which are why AMO-LED screens are becoming more and more used by manufacturers.

#4 Fingerprint Sensor

It should become a norm over the next year for all smartphones to have fingerprint sensors. It far out beats any other way of unlocking a device as it is super quick and very secure. So, for at least the biggest smartphone manufacturers, fingerprint sensors should become a norm too.
