My Pet Hates/Cons of WordPress

WordPress is one of, if not the, most used platform when it comes to blogging online (with the other Image result for wordpressbeing Blogger). There are many reasons for this which I could go into a whole new article about. But, to summarise, it has a great interface, easy to use, professional, great at customisation and at managing content mills. However, just because so many hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions, around the world use WordPress does not mean it is the perfect blogging platform. After using WordPress for many years, I have developed a few pet hates or negatives with the blogging platform and here are the main ones to share with you.

#1 Best for Content Mills Only

From developing different types of websites from eCommerce to extremely socially integrated websites to content mills, I can safely say that WordPress fits the needs of content mills the most. Considering a content mill is literally just a website with content published to it, that kind of seems a bit, well, simplistic of WordPress to mainly suit the need of such a type of website.

My problem comes with wanting to use WordPress to make other types of websites: particularly eCommerse websites and more complex websites in general. If you wanted to do this with WordPress, you are going to struggle alot unless you have a great team of experts behind you helping you every step of the way.

#2 Similar Themes

My first ever website was created in Blogger because I wanted a platform that was easy to use and made by Google. My second website was created in WordPress because I wanted something that bit more professional and more appealing to potential customers if I ever wanted to sell it. Another positive I saw with WordPress was the huge market there is for professionally designed themes that you can get for free or pay for.

However, after paying and using different themes, the upsetting thing is that although they are different, they look sometimes similar and have a stench of ‘this is a WordPress theme’. If you truly wanted to make a great website that was going to hit it big online, do you want to have a theme that subliminally says ‘yes, this is a big website. But, it is still just a theme I bought for my WordPress website?’ It sounds weird but that is how I feel with a lot of the themes developers make.

#3 WordPress is Only as Good as Your Hosting

What I found to be a big pet hate of mine is that your WordPress website is only ever going to be as good as the hosting that you have used to host your website with. For me, I chose GoDaddy. However, if GoDaddy has any problems, I will suffer when using WordPress.

You might love WordPress. However, it’s performance is completely dependant on the hosting you went for – I guess this is even more reason to choose as good a host as possible when first creating a website!
