LG Unveils The V10 With Two Screens and Two Cameras

This time of year is always great for those that are interested in the technological markets. This is because everyone is preparing and releasing their phones for the biggest time to spend of the year: Christmas. Apple have just recently released the iPhone 6s with a pressure sensitive screen but, to take some light away from Apple, LG have just released another flagship phone being the LG V10 (yes I said another. That is three flagship phones for 2015! The Lg G Flex, G4 and now the V10)! With all of LG’s products, it has some quirky and different features that are not typical to other smartphones which I will go into in this article.

So what is different and exciting about the LG V10? What are the specifications and should you get one?

  • The LG V10 features two screens on the front. The first screen is a Quad HD 5.7 inch screen. The second screen is just above the first one and is a 2.1 inch IPS display with similar resolution to the main screen. LG wants the phone to use this screen to show icons to help assist with multitasking between different apps and assist in displaying notifications. At the moment, the second screen is always on which might affect battery life of the 3000mAh battery – only time will tell…
  • There are two front facing cameras. The idea behind this is to make it possible to picture the perfect selfies for those that still like to take lots of selfies. Both cameras are 5 megapixels. However, when the phone user wants to take a picture of himself/herself with others, the two cameras are used side by side with the software merging the two cameras images together. By doing this creates a 120 degree wide angle picture so that everyone fits into the selfie. It is definitely useful but is it a necessity and solving a major problem? I am still not convinced yet…
  • The back camera features 16 megapixels and has the ability to shoot 4k video.
  • In terms of the specs under the hood, LG interestingly went for the Snapdragon 808 processor: just like with the LG G4 (making clear they abandoned the 810 chip after using it in the LG G Flex 2). There is 4GB ram, 64GB storage and a micro SD card slot that will make the storage expandable to 2 TB. Does the phone need 64GB if it has a micro SD card slot? I am not too sure again – they could have saved some money by making it have 32GB internal storage and no-one would have complained)…
  • It has a fingerprint sensor which is a nice touch.
  • In terms of hardware, it is a metal construction to give a premium feel to the web user and a rubberised back for added grip.

Should you get a LG V10?

I really like what LG have done with the V10. However, I think too much focus has been put on improving areas that did not really need that much improving. The features the V10 have are things that are ‘nice to have’ but not ‘necessities to have’. However, to some people, this will look to be the perfect phone for them.
