LG Release the G6 To Counter the iPhone 8 and Galaxy S8

Image result for lg g6

It is late February which means we are starting to see tech OEMs start to release their flagship Image result for lg g6smartphones for the year, with LG being the first of the large tech companies out there to do so with the G6. Truth be told that the LG G5 was a relatively large flop for LG, mainly due to the modular design which really did not take off, possibly due to the modules having to turn the phone off and remove the battery to interchange modules. However, LG has scrapped away with this in the G6 so let’s see what is new with LG’s flagship smartphone for 2017.

#1 New Design

The LG G6 has a brand new design which features metal around the sides and Gorilla Glass both on the front and rear, much like many flagship smartphones feature.

As well as this, the rear of the smartphone does not have any camera bump, unlike the iPhone 7 has. Instead, the back of the phone has been filled with a larger 3300mAh battery: all within a slim profile of 7.9mm.

#2 Water-resistant and Wireless Charging

LG has taken note of the the consumers and have added water-resistance to the phone, so that it can stay submerged under water at a depth of 1m for up to 30 minutes. As well as this, the phone features wireless charging, even when it is wet. This is not common for flagship phones and, therefore, is a welcome addition to the G6: especially for those that like to let their phone charge to full overnight (by placing it on a wireless charger).

#3 18:9 Aspect Ratio Screen

The real estate the screen takes up on the front of the phone is truly staggering, matching that of the G2 by LG. However, what is most surprising is the fact that the aspect ratio is different from the norm. Instead of being 16:9, the G6 screen is 18:9, which allows for movies to look brilliant and have little to no ‘black boxes’ above and below the video. Unfortunately, the screen is not AMO-LED which means it does not support Google’s Daydream VR. However, from having HDR compatibility, at the minimum, the colours displayed are vivid and bold.

#4 Dual Rear Camera

The G6 features two cameras on the rear of the camera, which work in harmony to produce a wide angled picture one camera would not be capable of doing. With two 13 megapixel cameras, the camera software ‘stiches’ the two pictures together, for which early on reports seemingly suggests causes a little lag when capturing a picture. This could be mainly down to the processor used in the LG G6, which is not the first choice for what will be many flagship phones in 2017.

#5 Snapdragon 821 Processor

Although the 821 is not a slouch of a processor by all means, it still is not the first choice processor for flagships of 2017 to go for since the snapdragon 835 does exists. However, LG claim that because their engineers have worked with the 821 for a longer time, they know how to best manage the chip in terms of performance and battery life, as well as prevent the chip from overheating unlike the notorious 810 chip.
