How To Save Money As A Blogger

When it comes to finding articles online about blogging tips, tricks and general ways to make money online, I am sure you will find many articles (you only have to look on TweaksForGeeks in the blogging section for this too)! My point is that there is a lot of help out there for people wanting to improve their blogging experience to increase their income. However, what help is out there for bloggers who want to save money and cut down the costs of their blog? For this reason, here are some ways I have learnt to save money as a blogger.

#1 Only Pay For Necessities

There are many services online that claim to help your blog or website if you pay for it. For example, there are many SEO services, traffic optimisation and so on that you could pay for. The simply answer is do not pay for it. Only pay for the necessities that you need to run your website. For the majority, this will involve the domain registration.

When it comes to domain registration, it is by far cheaper to buy your domain in instalments of, let’s say, 5 years than each year because the price per year goes down due to wholesale bulk buy. Therefore, if you know your website will be continuing for the next 5-10 years, pay for 5-10 years now and you will save up to 50% of your domain’s cost per year depending who your domain is registered with.

As well as this, many domain registers offer monthly subscriptions to get your own email such as [email protected]. These are really not worth it since the majority of domain registrars allow you to use a forward email for [email protected] to go to your personal email so you can still have your own email for your website only that it forwards to your personal email.

#2 Time is Money

Although this will not be saving you money, it will be saving you time and, as we all know, time is money (so it will be kind of saving you money). When it comes to blogging, make sure you are efficient in the time you blog. By this, keep procrastinating to a minimum and make sure you tick off all the objectives you set out to do first before tinkering with things like the design, comments and so on.

As I have said in previous posts, when I first started blogging, I almost spent half my time tinkering with irrelevant things which is a complete waste of time! Learn from me and do not make the same mistakes I did!

#3 Design/Maintain Your Own Website

Again, there are many services out there which will design your own unique website and help you maintain it too – do not go for these if you are really tight for cash. Website design usually costs $500 upwards with an up keep per month on top of that. Is it really worth it? If the sky is the limit for you, it is. But, for those that want a simple design, it really is not hard to design your own website. Plus, you will also learn quite a lot in the meantime too!
