How To Make Money Out Of Blogging

I have to admit that becoming a blogger is an emerging market. I heard the other day that nearly 4 billion people are online today – that is crazy! Therefore, it does kind of make sense that more and more people want to make money from blogging. However, how do you start off in blogging and how do you end up making a nice income or side income from it? Well, the honest answer is that there is no right or wrong way. All I can do, though, is share with you how I got into blogging and have ended up making money from it.

I think no matter what category of blogging you want to go into, it is a necessity to start up your own blog/website. This is because starting your own website from scratch will give you first hands experience with:

  • Blogging, of course
  • HTML coding
  • Social media marketing
  • Search Engine Optimisation
  • Generating ‘blogging buddies’
  • An audience to blog to
  • How to make money online
  • How to take advantage of advertising and more

However, more importantly, having your own blog will give you something to boast about on your CV. This is because when it comes to applying for a blogging job to work for another website making articles and more for them, they will want to see what type of experience you have in blogging. If you did not have your own website, you probably would have made an article here and there, which is all fine and well. However, an employer will look to take someone on who has created their own website from scratch as it shows a huge commitment and passion for blogging to do this and will have helped you gain lots of experience in blogging.

After that, it is exponential when it comes to getting jobs in blogging. This is because as you continue to work for others online, you are widening the audience that your articles are being viewed by. By doing this, you are making your online footprint much larger, which will help subsequently get other employers to see you and will want to employ you.

So, if I was to sum (and include a few minor points too):

  • Create a website so you can learn how to blog (preferably in WordPress as most professional websites use WordPress) and to gain experience from learning from mistakes.
  • Use your website on your CV when it comes to applying for jobs.
  • Never say how much you are willing to work for (and do it per article too). Let them decide and, for your first job, accept whatever wage they offer. This is because you simply need to get articles out there online to expand your CV.
  • Two or three jobs in only then can you start negotiating.
  • You have become a blogger!
