Google Pixel Phone – What to Expect

It’s the fall which means it is that time of year everyone starts getting a little more excited: not just because of the holiday season but because every large tech company is releasing their new flagship phones in preparation for the holiday shopping season. Instead of giving the likes of LG and Huawei the chance to build the hardware for their next set of phones, Google are looking to choose one tech company to do this (which, at the moment, seems to be HTC). What makes it interesting is that the news online is that this is the best Android phone to date which will compete the closest with Apple’s iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Yes, beating even Samsung’s S7, S7 Edge and Note 7.

Putting this aside, what should we expect from Google’s new flagship phone? Here is a roundup of some of the rumours surrounding Google’s new smartphone, which has been known as the Google Pixel Phone online.

#1 Two Sizes: Pixel and Pixel XL

Just like Apple and Samsung, there will be two sized flagship phones Google will be releasing to replace the Nexus 5X and 6P. The Pixel, to replace the 5X, should sport a 5 inch 1080p display whereas the Pixel XL, to replace the 6P, will consist of a 5.5 inch quad HD (2560×1440) AMO-LED display. For this reason, you can expect the Pixel XL to have one of the best screens ever on a smartphone when it does come out.

#2 Snapdragon 821 Processors

The rumours for the new range of Pixel phones by Google state that the only differences to each of the phones, with the exception of the displays, is simply the size. With this being said, we can expect both to have the same lightning quick hardware of a Snapdragon 821 processor, which has been clocked in as 10% quicker than the previous 820 chip.

#3 New Android 7.0 Nougat

As expected with any phone made by Google, the Pixel and Pixel XL will both have the latest and cleanest version of Android being Android 7.0 Nougat. This sees a lot of new changes which both offer a cleaner interface for the user as well as better performance and battery life. For many people, having an up-to-date clean Android is the biggest factor when considering a phone by Google.

#4 4GB of RAM, 32GB/128GB Versions

Lastly, we can expect that, if the phones do use the Snapdragon 821 processor, the smartphones will likely have 4GB of RAM to aid in efficient and fast multi tasking. Just like Apple do with their mobile devices, there will be no expandable storage for the Pixel range and neither will there be any chance of replacing the battery easily. For this reason, you should expect to see two model variations of the Pixel and Pixel XL: a 32GB entry level option and a 128GB version to aid those that need that bit more storage capacity.
