Does the Loading Speed of a Website Matters?

The are many areas us bloggers take care in optimising and improving in our websites. We create new high quality articles with good SEO, update the theme to look good for visitors and better for SEO. We add social media platforms to increase traffic and more. However, one area that seems to get overlooked quite consistently is the speed at which your website loads at. I am not sure why this is the case but website loading time is a huge factor in terms of your website’s overall success. Here are the main reasons why the speed at which your website loads web pages matters a lot.

#1 Fast Websites Have Better SEO

If your website loads faster, search engines such as Google will rank you higher on their results pages. Therefore, you may have the best content that would rank you number one for about every competitive keyword search phrase. However, if you chose to include a bit too many widgets in your sidebar and above and below your content (which caused your website to load a few seconds later than normal), the good SEO of your article will be counteracted by your website’s poor loading speed.

#2 The Notorious Online Attention Span

The attention span of people online is notoriously known for being extremely short of around 5-7 seconds. Therefore, first impressions matter and it is the first 5-10 seconds which are instrumental to the success of your website. If you website loads within a second, that’s great. The web user can expect to navigate through your website with ease. However, if they are waiting more than five seconds for it to be loaded, impatience will start kicking in to the point that they will simply click off your website and find the next best alternative website to click onto through a search engine. Therefore, a slow loading time can lose you visitors even after you have gained that click from them to visit your website.

#3 Mobile Traffic is Becoming More Important

It is a fact that nowadays that mobile searches have actually overtaken desktop searches for Google (what a world we are living in)! This makes it clear that mobile optimised websites are going to become very important the way websites are viewed on mobile devices will be key not only to the user experience people have on mobile devices but also for mobile SEO too (since Google favours websites with mobile optimised themes).

A big part to having a good user experience on a mobile optimised website is in having a fast loading time. If you thought web users had a bad attention span when viewing websites on desktop PCs, think again about the attention span of those with mobile devices (it’s even less). Therefore, especially for mobile traffic, website loading time is key to success.
