A Summary of the Best of CES 2016

So CES 2016 has come and gone and has caused a storm in the tech industries – new products, new technology, new inventions and more all came from this year’s consumer electronics show. However, it would take hours to go through every piece of tech that appeared at CES 2016. Therefore, he is a summary of CES 2016 that you can take away from the show.

Fitbit Disappointed

The market leader in wearable fitness devices claimed that they had some new technology that would really solidify Fitbit as the leading brand for fitness wearables and strengthen their position in the market. However, the complete opposite happened: to the extent that shares of Fitbit fell by 18% after the launch of their new product: the Fitbit Blaze. Most people were expecting innovations of their current range, such as a sleeker, slimmer and lighter Fitbit Charge HR with a larger battery. Instead, Fitbit decided to enter into the smartwatch market, competing against Android Wear and Apple: a big risk for the company to take which has, at the moment, seemed like it has not paid off.

VR is still quite not ready…

For most, people thought many virtual reality would really hit the public with CES 2016. However, it seemed more of the capabilities of VR (such as with the adult industry) than the ability for consumers to buy it with an ecosystem of videos, games and more to interact with.

This does give off two impressions for me. Either 1) companies will release VR headsets towards Christmas 2016 or 2) CES 2017 will be where virtual reality is ‘properly’ introduced to the consumers to order.

Drones drones drones…

2015 was the year of the drones – to the point that new regulations, laws and more were introduced because of the surge in drones – it looks like the drone market will continue to increase based on CES. With drones to help youngsters learn coding and even a full size drone for people to fly in, there was probably a drone within eye contact from anywhere at CES 2016. All this will mean is that the products will be come more affordable for consumers in 2016, allowing more of us to purchase them.

Laptops are becoming Powerhouses

Although we have seen Ultrabooks for the last few years or so, CES 2016 really made it clear that for gamers, business people, personal use and even video editing, ultra thin laptops are becoming the first computer device to go for. Why? Because we are getting to the stage that ultrabooks are becoming so powerful they can quite easily manage most demanding CPU processes that computers could do a year ago.

TVs – Always a big deal at CES

Yes, TVs are becoming thinner, smarter, with higher pixel density and more – the likes of Samsung, LG and others showed this off quite well. But, by far the stand out screen at CES 2016 was the bendable LG 18″ OLED screen, which can bend up into a radius of 3cm.

This is truly amazing and really enlightens people as to what the future of technology will have for us. It is an exciting time to be alive for those interested in technology!
