4 Tips For WordPress Beginners

When a blogger first starts to use WordPress, it can become quite daunting the level of customization WordPress offers over competitors such as Google’s Blogger. However, you do not have to have such a daunting feelingg with WordPress: especially if you are new to the blogging platform and blogging for that matter. Here are some tips you can take away that should hopefully help you become more accustomed and use to WordPress as a day to day blogging platform to use.

  1. Choose the free option first – Not all of the features WordPress has for offer are free to use. In actual fact, most of them you will have to pay some sort of monthly fee. Do not worry though. The best way to get use to WordPress is to master the free version of it first and then, when you are ready, upgrade to the premium plan. If you feel like you have mastered that and need more features, you can then always move onto the Business plan.
  2. Use Plugins as much as possible – Plugins are a great addition to WordPress that, I feel, really does differentiate it from the likes of Blogger. I look at plugins as ‘Apps for a phone’. Plugins enable websites to have additional features, sometimes at a fee but mostly free. Examples include statistics viewing, SEO checker and more. My advice for plugins is to use as many as possible as they really do expand the possibilities of websites run in WordPress.
  3. Do not spend too much time with the theme – A common mistake made by new time bloggers is to spend the majority of their time changing, optimising and tweaking their design to get it just the way they want it. The truth is that it is a complete waste of time – at the start of a website’s life, time needs to be put into other key areas such as SEO, social media and pages. Therefore, look to hire a website designer to do the design for you – this can easily be achieved for under $100 – yes, it might seem a lot but it will save a lot of your time helping to make you work much more efficiently
  4. Blog away! – The best way to learn a new blogging platform is to simply use it for what it is good at: blogging! Nothing will help you learn better than to actually use it to start creating and publishing articles to your newly created website.
