3 Ways To Increase Twitter Follower Count

As a blogger, it is a necessity to link any blog with social media accounts on, at least, the main social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Google +. This is because social media platforms can make it possible for your blog to gain much more traffic than just from organic search results: if you have the right set up for your social media accounts. At the end of the day, the sky is the limit. If you tweet one of your articles, it could go viral and be viewed by thousands if not millions. For this reason, social media is important. To help your blog out on Twitter, here are a few ways you can help your blog’s Twitter account increase it’s follower count.

#1 Set Your Account Up Right

The first step to increasing your follower account is to make sure your account is properly set up:

  • Have a good profile picture – Is the profile picture friendly, nice to look at and a good representation of the account?
  • Use your bio – Make sure to use the bio to give a summary of the Twitter account.
  • Choose a good username – It will be impossible for people to follow you if your username name is extremely long! Therefore, try to stick to using just letters like mine (@willGreeny). Numbers, under scores and more give the impression that you did not get your first choice of username.
  • Link your account everywhere on your website – Make sure that there is a Twitter icon above the fold of your blog so that web users can click straight onto it to visit your Twitter profile page and follow you.

#2 Follow Related People

There is a rule of thumb on Twitter that for every two or three people you follow, one will follow back. For this reason, if you follow 300 similar people/accounts to you, you should expect 100-150 follows back. This is a good technique to getting followers. However, having thousands of followers does not look good on a Twitter profile. Therefore, I would only follow a maximum of 200 other Twitter accounts.

#3 Tweet Often and About Trends

The best way to get interacting with others on Twitter is to tweet about events that are happening now. You can do this by looking at what is trending on Twitter at the time you want to tweet, and by either using the words that are trending on including the hashtag that is trending. Although it might be unrelated to what you want your Twitter account to be associated with, it is effective in getting people to view your tweet, view your profile and potentially follow you.

Some of the best accounts on Twitter can link any trending topic to their account so this might be something you could try. For example, a groceries Twitter account could simply tweet about a trend about a hosepipe band or they could entice Twitter users to buy water from them instead!
