3 Tips to Making Money as an Affiliate

When it comes to making money online, the vast majority of us look towards PPC advertising to make money from traffic generated from content. However, this does not entirely mean that is the only way to make money online. When done correctly, making money as an affiliate can sometimes be a better source of income than other forms. For this reason, here are a few tips you can take into consideration if you are looking to make money as an affiliate.

Before we start, it should be noted what exactly an affiliate is? Well, there are three types of affiliates:

  • Pay per sale – By linking to a product/service, if a web user clicks onto your link and makes a sale, you get a percentage of the sale value.
  • Pay per click – This is the basis of how PPC advertising works.
  • Pay per lead – If you are not linking to a product or service, you can always link to a webpage which requires a lead (web user to fill out information). In this case, you will make a certain amount of money per lead you produce.

For our purposes, we will look into pay per sale since this is the most common form of affiliate advertising.

#1 Don’t Be Bias

The main problem with those trying to make money from affiliate advertising is that they know that if they give a good review of a product or service, more people are more likely to buy that product or service. Therefore, a lot of affiliates give great reviews, even when the products and services are bad, just to gain the commission from getting a sale.

This is wrong and should not happen. As well as this, you are more likely to come across as biased from doing this reducing the value of your review in the first place. The best affiliate websites provide objective opinions to the products and services they are affiliated to.

#2 Limit the Amount of Links

Just like with publishers of PPC advertising, you should limit the amount of links you have to your affiliate link for the following benefits:

  • To reduce your website and content from looking ‘spammy’.
  • To reduce the chances that the content for the affiliated link makes it obvious it wants the web user to click onto the link and make a sale.
  • To improve readability of the content.

Above all else, you need to inform the web user. Therefore, try sticking the affiliate links at the bottom of articles so that they can read your full opinion of the product or service and then make their own decision.

#3 Do Product Comparisons

If you are afraid every review of products could potentially be bad reviews which will reduce the chances of a sale, then the best thing to do is product comparisons. This way, one product will always come across as good as opposed to the product. At the minimum, the web user will be more happy to buy one product than the other based on your review of them both side by side.
