3 Tech Companies That Got It Wrong In 2015

With it coming to the end of 2015, we can look back on the year which has seen a surge in wearable tech, curved screens and ultra high resolution screens. However, it has not all been plain sailing for all of tech companies out there. A lot of companies have done well and have hugeprofits to reflect this. However, there are tech companies out there which, I feel, could have done much better. Therefore, without further ado, here are 3 tech companies that got it wrong in 2015.

#1 Fitbit

Fitbit is one of, if not the, leading company in fitness wearable technology. A lot of the success has come from the last range of products, released in January 2015, such as the Fitbit Charge HR and the Fitbit Surge. However, they are on the list for that exact reason – why did they decide to release the products in January?

Part of the reason was because of manufacturing – this meant they had missed out on the Christmas rush of 2014. However, because of this, it seems they have consequently stopped themselves from releasing anything before 2015 Christmas – maybe because they feel it is too early to release an updated range? I am not sure. But, one thing for sure is that there is a huge market for people to buy fitness wearables for others at Christmas as it is a gadget that many people love, especially getting heart rate information.

#2 Sony

Sony have made some really good smartphones. However, when they release them and under what name has totally confused the consumers of the world. Unlike most tech companies that release an iteration of their flagship phone once a year at the same time each year, Sony decided to change this and release them all over the place under confusing names. Hopefully, Sony will get the idea that sticking to numbers and not ‘+’s on smartphone names will prevent confusion as well as to always release a phone at around September time (just in time for the Christmas rush).

#3 Qualcomm

Let’s be honest, it has probably been Qualcomm’s worst ever year in the mobile industry due to their Snapdragon 810 processor. Seen upon as the processor for flagships in 2015, it became apparent very quickly that performance was terrible when the chip overheated, which it did a lot of the time. Therefore, most smartphone makers resorted to the less powerful 808 chip. This is because although the chip did not perform as fast, it did not have as serious a overheating problem as the 810 did. Therefore, in the long run, the average performance was better: especially for high usage applications.

For Qualcomm, it has been disastrous. However, they should have learned from their mistakes so that the flagship processor chip for 2016 will be faster and cooler than ever.
