We all know just how quickly technology moves. Actually, I think we don’t. The thing about technology is that the rate at which we are learning is constantly increasing, making the improvements in technology increase at an, almost, exponential rate. With this, the pieces of technology we see and take for granted today, well, we were dreaming of ten and twenty years ago of inventing and using. For this reason, here are three pieces of technology that really does prove that we are already living in the future, which goes to prove just how bright the future of mankind looks, in terms of technological improvements.

#1 Quantum Computing

Computer processors have been getting smaller and smaller. For example, the Samsung S8 uses Snapdragon’s 835 chip which uses 10 nanometre transistors – this is around 10,000 times larger than the thickness of your hair! Processor chips are getting very small – so small, in fact, that the realm of quantum physics starts to play havack with processor chips, as things start to vanish and reappear in different places.

Traditional chips use logic gates that are either 1 or 0. Quantum computers use qubits, which can be set to 1 or 0. However, what is different about them is that it can be in any propotion of both states at once (superposition). This means that the amount of data that qubits can store is far greater than that of normal bits, since qubits can be in two states at once, theoretically.

What this means is that the power of processors are going to increase so quickly when quantum computing becomes mainstream. Why does it prove we are living in the future? There are already quatum computers out there, such as for bank’s security systems or artifical intelligence, which proves they really do work and are extremely fast.

#2 Virtual Reality

Gaming has long been wanting to have something that can truly make the user feel as if they are in a game. Virtual reality headsets from Oculus, Sony, Google, HTC and more are making this a reality, where games such as racing car games are coming extremely closer to reality. This does beg the question just how far gaming can go, since we are already very near reality. A conveyor belt to allow users to move around? Maybe the matrix might actually happen…

#3 Autonomous Cars

It was only around a hundred years ago when the first cars were created. Now, you can see cars from Ford, Audi, Volkswagon, Tesla and more self-driving themselves to aid the comfort of the driver. What a crazy world we live in now that this is a reality! In the next five years, expect more and more autonomous cars to hit the world, where at one point, there will be a car that can drive someone from point A to B without the driver performing any input at all.

Be this as this may, the fact there are electric cars out there that can nearly do this, albeit not to consumers due to legal constraints, simply proves just how much we are actually living in the future already.
