2 Ways to Not Waste Time When Blogging

Over the years, I have made just about every mistake that is possible to make when it comes to blogging. When I come to think about it, I have actually made life quite difficult for myself on many occasions! With this in mind, I can sincerely say that the number one biggest mistake I made (and sometimes still make!) in blogging is with wasting time and being inefficient. If I could be 95% productive with the time I have spent on blogging, I would have been a millionaire by now (honestly)! However, things happen, I see a funny cat burping on Facebook and it’s already 8pm!

Regardless of a cat burping, there are some great ways to make sure you make the most of your time blogging so that you waste as little amounts of your precious time as possible. here are two ways to not waste time when blogging.

#1 Allocate Tasks in Batches

By far my best tip is to make sure you do similar tasks all at once in batches for the week or month. Examples of these include:

  • Writing articles – If you are setting yourself a number of articles to write a week (let’s say 7), you could do one a day or 7 at once. If you do 7 at once, you will quickly get into the swing of things unlike if you did one a day (which would be very stop/start).
  • Social media and commenting – This would need to be done a little more regularly (such as once or twice a week). However, by setting time to go through your social media channels and reply to comments, you are reframing yourself from procrastinating a lot during the week replying to comments and social media messages as they pop up.
  • Optimisation – Although not a necessity, I like to spend a little time each week on optimising any part of my website. This could be in terms of improving my website’s design, updating a few articles to make them better or improving my Adsense adverts. Either way, I like to add a few hours to optimisation so I can say to myself ‘my website is generally better than it was last week’ – if I can keep saying that to myself every week, well, the only way is up from there!

#2 Find Out When You’re Most Productive

For the majority of people, 9am-5pm will seem like a good time to do their blogging (if they don’t have a job during them hours). If they do have jobs during them hours, then you will usually find that the blogging is pushed back to the evening.

However, is this really the best time to do blogging? What you should do is learn when you are most productive (and only you can answer this) so that you can concentrate on blogging at that time of day.

For some, this might be first thing in the morning. For others, this could be at lunchtime or even at 11pm at night. For me, this seems to be on a Sunday afternoon with a good cup of tea!
