For most people, when they are blogging, they will not need any motivation whatsoever: especially for those that quit their daytime jobs to blog full time. At the end of the day, these people had usually quite dull boring jobs so quitting their jobs to blog about hobbies and passions will help to provide self-generating motivation However, there will still be a lot of people out there that will be struggling to keep themselves motivated the whole time when it comes to blogging. I think the main reason for this is because you are your own boss. If you don’t want to do the work, that’s fine! You just won’t do as well online. <– let’s not ever get to this point, though. Here are two ways to maintain your motivation when it comes to blogging.
#1 Jot Down Blog Ideas Constantly
One of the main reasons people lose faith in blogging which ultimately causes their low morale is because of ‘blogger’s block’. Just like writer’s block, this is when the blogger needs to write about something but when it comes to actually writing it, they have no clue what to write nor where to start. Blogger’s block is not an enjoyable experience to have which is why it is a necessity to always jot down any ideas you may have for articles. The best articles you create do not come when you are sat staring at a white screen waiting for a light bulb to pop up above your head – the best ideas come from the most random of times. Use a notepad app on your phone to list and jot down any ideas you may come up with so that when it comes to writing about something, you already have many ideas to write about that have come naturally instead of forced upon.
#2 Reward Yourself
Motivation occurs most frequently when someone does something and, due to their actions, gets an reward from it. For example, if an athlete works extra hard in the gym and with his endurance training, they will get the reward that the time it takes to do their track event has decreased.
By giving yourself rewards after certain amounts of work is a good motivation to keep your blogging going. Examples include:
- Have a snack after writing so many words.
- Take a 20 second break with a cup of tea for every 100 words you write.
- Procrastinate for 5 minutes after finishing an article.
Whatever floats your boat, make that your motivation! For example, my motivation is to have food after I have finished blogging.
As well as this, I usually find that prolonging something often results in more stress plus you still have to do it. Therefore, it is always better to get things you have to do out of the way so you can free your mind later on from any stress it may cause.
