2 Social Media Marketing Tips For Bloggers

Is-the-Hoopla-Over-Social-Media-Marketing-the-Biggest-Myth-Ever.jpg

Social media is becoming a larger and more dominant force for bloggers to take advantage of for so many reasons. There are millions of people that use social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook daily and even Google recently announced in their last search engine algorithm update that tweets and Facebook posts will have a ranking associated to them to rank them on Google search engine results! Whatever way you look at it, social media and social media marketing is something every blogger should be doing. For this reason, here are 2 social media marketing tips you can take advantage of as a blogger.

#1 Reshare Old Content

The vast majority of bloggers out there will have their Twitter, Facebook and other social media accounts directly connected to their websites so that whenever an article goes live and is published, the connected social media accounts automatically share the article in a structured tweet/post etc.

This is good and helps save time in the long term. However, it does mean that once that article is published and shared on social media websites, it will never be shared again.

The fact of the matter is that content can be shared again and again on social media sites if you deem it good content to share. For example, I had an article on one of my websites that looked to help students with exam preparation – it was shared as soon as it was published. But, it makes sense to share it every time there are a lot of students that are about to have exams – the same can be said for many more articles out there.

#2 Link Your Social Media Shares to Trends

Most articles that are shared on social media websites are, what I like to call, ‘timeless’ shares. By this, they are posts/tweets which are timeless: it does not matter what year you view this in, it will still have the same impact. However, the problem with timeless shares is that social media websites are not timeless – views and clicks are powered by real life events going on. For example, today is the London Marathon so if I was a energy drinks company looking to tweet, it would make sense to include something about the London Marathon to, in it’s crudest form, ‘jump on the band wagon’. For this reason, before you send out a tweet or share, always try to link the tweet/share to something trending at the time.

I can understand that, to some extent, this is going to be quite time consuming to do both of the above tips. However, you will be surprised at the amount of content that seems to have been forgotten online which actually could be reused on a yearly/monthly/weekly basis to help people out. As well as this, you would also be surprised at the amount of extra clicks you could gain by linking your social media marketing to real life trending events. Both are quick and easy tips to improve your social media marketing effectiveness.
